I thank everyone for assuming that it could be done and having obtained to do all this in this place.”

“This is a special and highly symbolic artwork,” remarked Tourism Councillor Fabrizio Leggio, who introduced the inauguration,” through which it is possible to reinforce the message of peace and hope that Assisi evokes every day.

The scenography of the installation is by architect Alberto Bartalini, who wanted to present the bronze olives as a large family composed as follows: 140 olives arranged with a strongly evocative olive branch in the lawn of the Basilica, a monumental mother olive that ideally depicts the generating force of the life-giving mother, along with three other smaller olives arranged in the square of the Upper Basilica. There are also reminders on the Basilica parvis and in the Town Hall Square.  Main sponsor of the project was the prominent oil company “Costa d'Oro.”

At the end of April in Sardinia in Muravera and Costa Rei, at the request of the municipal administration, permanently installs 4 oranges symbols of their land and ancient tradition. Godmothering the inauguration is Rosi Sgaravatti.

In May for Macfrut in Rimini, the Region of Calabria invite him to represent her land with his sculptural Germinations. Seven sculptures, set up under the artistic direction of Paolo Pecoraro, welcome thousands of visitors to the international event on Italy's most important fruit and vegetable sector. The event was officiated by the President of the Region of Calabria, Roberto Occhiuto, and Regional Councillor for Agriculture Gianluca Gallo.

For the Calabrian Consortium for the protection of the PGI “Clementina di Calabria,” Carta makes the sculpture “Clementina di Calabria,” first exhibited at Macfrut in Rimini, then at the Magna Graecia Film Festival in Catanzaro and currently on display at the National Archaeological Museum in Sibari.

In July, the Pro Loco of Banari, chaired by Luciana Sassu, establishe the Gilded Onion of Banari Award to give to great Sardinian personalities who carry up Sardinia's name in the world. Giuseppe Carta, who is the designer and creator of the award depicting a gilded bronze sculptural onion, donate the sculpture to the great chef Luigi Pomata and the famous tenor Francesco Demuro on the 2023 edition.

With his sculptural germinations, true hymns to Nature and the Earth, he exhibits in several public locations such as the Municipality of Bonorva in Sardinia and Pietrasanta in Tuscany.

In September with his famous chili peppers he attends the World Chili Pepper Fair in Rieti as the undisputed Master of Chili Peppers in the World.

In late November, still in Calabria, he invited to the inauguration of the GIAS Experiential Business Museum celebrating the entrepreneurial history of the Tenuta family of Mongrassano. With some of his important sculptures, Giuseppe Carta honors the work and tenacity of the Tenuta family, a leader in fruit and vegetable freezing.

As of April 6, the National Museum of Castel Sant'Angelo in Rome counts among its acquisitions the sculptural artwork “Germination of Peace.”

Donated by Carta, it recalls the giant-scale olive installation displayed in Assisi on the lawn in front of the Basilica of St. Francis.

As a reminder of the Assisi artwork, the olive branch in gilded bronze and enamel dialogues inside Castel Sant'Angelo with the seventeenth-century building of Urban VIII's Olearia, next to which it is placed.

Its message of Peace, as strong as ever at this moment in history, finds a symbolic “bridge” between Assisi, a place of Peace par excellence, and St. Peter's Basilica, which stands just beyond the Castle.

2024

In “his” Pietrasanta, an emblematic place for sculpture where Carta gives form, material and colour to his artwork, the big lemon is on display at “L'Agrumeta” a 3-day event dedicated to citrus fruits of the Mediterranean.

In June, also in Pietrasanta, on the occasion of the event White night of Sketches with which the renowned Versilia town celebrated the museum's 40th anniversary, Giuseppe Carta's donation of the plaster of the acorn sculpture entitled Germination of the Earth was presented to the public.

GIUSEPPE CARTA’S GERMINATIONS

For communicative ability and suggestion the works of Giuseppe Carta, that reproduce

fruits of the earth, are an exceptional vehicle to ferry the value of the products of the earth within the universal message of Art, to make them become indispensable elements living and precious objects of our life, to the point of conceiving them as real ones contemporary monuments of our collective artistic experience.

The path that Carta follows is not only intuitive and imaginative, but it is above all expertise technique, the reached level of interpretation of the truth of nature with the truth of painting and with that of sculpture.

Giuseppe Carta has a careful and precise look at both the whole and the particular but also to the setting and the skilful scenography of the summa of individual pieces, because even in nature the fruits of the garden are each identical to itself, but they constitute a harmonious whole, in visual balance.

Eye, intellect and heart, in addition to the technical skill of the realization, dominate the fruits giants of Carta, loved, caressed, dreamed of, made active presences by the artist. From the point of given the artistic genre, it could certainly be "still life", but on closer inspection they want to be “living nature” in perfect harmony with the translations of the term that illustrate the genre, still life in English, stillleben in German.

Germination is the sudden, almost magical and abnormal birth of large fruits made of polychrome resin, bronze or mirror aluminium - chillies, tomatoes, lemons, cherries, strawberries, pomegranates - suddenly in the limelight of our collective imagination, witnesses and interpreters of an atavistic world, yet concrete, which has crossed the millennia with the silent discretion of what is normally precious to man's life and therefore somehow taken for granted. These fruits, a fundamental part of the history of the rural economy of the whole of Italy, become through the hands of Giuseppe Carta, Art and are offered to us as "illustrious characters" honoured by our time.

The large chillies were conceived by Carta for the Chinese city of Chongqing in the Sichuan region, where they still populate the main square as a symbol of the entire region. The aluminium fruits with their "guardian" donkey, capable of capturing the reflections of the surrounding environment and of those curious who look inside them on their mirror surface, have been exhibited in the Piazza del Duomo in Pietrasanta. Pomegranates, symbolic fruit par excellence because linked to the passion of Christ, are the symbol of the Theatre of Silence wanted by Andrea Bocelli in his hometown of Lajatico, in Tuscany. Many of them populated the Apulian Castles on the occasion of the celebration of the 2018 Year of Food.

All together these fruits are offered to us as a wonderful apparition, spectacle, emotional involvement. Although not immediately perceptible, the intention to create real symphonies of chords is evident in all the works of Carta.

The installations of sculptures, such as the arrangement of objects in the painted pictures, follow precise, weighted rhythms and "sing" in unison, directed by a skilled Choir Master (and Carta really was in his first life), an impalpable melody yet audible. These works are in fact vital, they relate to each other, they dialogue.

From the simplest product of nature, which man has been able to tame within a small subsistence area, respecting the cycles of the seasons and to ensure the plant elements of his own evolved diet, Carta draws an exemplary teaching, that of gratitude to the symbols of the simplicity of self-generation and growth. And he does it with his perfect art.
